This New Bluesky Feature is a Gamechanger

One More Reason Why Bluesky is Better Than 𝕏

There’s a new feature on Bluesky that seems to have gone under the radar for a lot of people, myself included, until now.

The decentralised social media network has been growing rapidly, largely as a result of users leaving 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) in disgust at the actions of Elon Musk. Mark Zuckerberg’s platforms, including Facebook and Threads, have also been alienating users due to Meta’s repeated breaches of data trust.

One of the things users love about Bluesky is that you are not a slave to the algorithm. Because the network is decentralised, the posts and subjects you get to see aren’t controlled by sketchy billionaires, but by you as a user. This is a big issue for a growing number of people fed up with corporate manipulation and underhand censorship.

Bluesky currently has around 33 million users. Compared to similar platforms like 𝕏 and Threads, that might not seem a lot, but as the youngest of the three, it is still early days for Bluesky and its potential is huge.

Until September last year, Bluesky didn’t even have videos. Even then, the maximum length of videos has only been one minute, which is frustratingly short.

But that has all changed.

You can now upload longer videos on Bluesky

This recent improvement means that users can now upload videos up to three minutes long. That’s significantly longer than what’s available to free users on 𝕏, which limits videos to 2 minutes and 20 seconds unless you pay for an upgrade.

On Bluesky, these longer videos are free.

This is a game-changer. I don’t need to tell you how video-centric today’s social media users are — the popularity of TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels speaks for itself.

With the addition of this new feature, Bluesky has shown itself to be a powerful challenger in its field, and its future looks brighter than ever.

See you there…
