The untold news behind ‘Wombatgate’ that nobody’s talking about
An influencer made headline news around the world this week when she snatched a baby wombat from their mother for a video shoot.
American influencer Sam Jones (a.k.a. Samantha Strable) sparked global outrage and united politicians across the political divide when she picked up a baby wombat by the roadside and ran off with the terrified baby, laughing.
The baby cried in fear and the mother gave desperate chase as Jones ran back to her vehicle with the infant to make a video which she later uploaded (and subsequently deleted) to her social media channel.
That account has now been made private after it was flooded with comments and condemnation from angry people furious with her for what she had done.
The video awakened a primal protective instinct in people. People could instantly see that it was wrong.
The Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the incident an “outrage”, while leader of the opposition Peter Dutton condemned the stunt as “a cruel act”.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Penny Wong called the video “dreadful”.
